For one of our community members, it means hope. He asked us to keep his name private, but gave us permission to share his story, in case it could help someone in similar circumstances.
“I was living in my truck and needed a safe place to access the internet to apply for jobs. I felt ashamed that I couldn’t find work in the field I was trained in. It made me realize how hard it can be to turn your life around. The library staff were friendly to me. They pointed out the online resume coaching service and the interview preparation sessions. After I told them I had an interview with a company, they shared with me a list of questions that employers often ask, which to me was the most helpful resource of all. I went into my interview feeling very prepared and truly believe I got the job because of the help and dedication I received from library staff.”
Our friend now works in his field of expertise and is no longer experiencing housing insecurity.
Will you help make a difference for someone else like him? Donate this holiday season, and you won’t just help the library. You will ensure that everyone in our community can access the resources, programs, and services they need – in a welcoming space – all year long.
